ALL REASONABLE OFFERS ENTERTAINED The history of the Stanley Brothers and the cars has been well documented, most recently in The Stanley Steamer: America’s Legendary Steam Car by Kit Foster. After selling their dry plate film business they ventured into automobiles. Steam was their choice. One of their most significant achievements was the wire wound boiler. This innovation greatly decreased the boiler weight from more conventional ones and thereby reduced the boiler to chassis ratio. So successful was this car that by 1899 they had buyers for their new company and its patents. The sale resulted in the Locomobile and later the Mobile steam car. The new partners disagreed over the future development of their cars and sold the patent rights back to the Stanley brothers. A new and improved Stanley was introduced in 1904. Most noticeable was the introduction of the horizontally mounted engine, this feature as well as the wire wound boiler would last till the end of production. New PRICE: $139,500 Contact Tom
Stanley roadster door catches wanted3/30/2020 I'm missing the door latch off my Stanley 740 roadster behind the seat compartment. The Latch is unkeyed and uses a square end T handle to open and close. The recess and cover appears identical to the boot latches so a boot latch would be fine. The pictures of the boot latch and the cut out are below. 2500 Euro Roel Rasker SOLD Email-[email protected] Grout information wanted2/28/2019 Do you know of any Grouts recently arriving in Europe? The Packard brothers a 100 years ago use to collect steam. The family had Stanleys and 2 Grouts. The son of one of the brothers is in his 90s now and the family sold the bigger, better Grout some years ago. I have the chassis to the smaller 1903 Model J they sold me. I believe my car was a parts donor to the bigger Grout even though they were different models. I think both Grouts share parts to each others car and I hope to talk with the new owner. Would you know the new owner of the other Grout? Thank you.
