Hi Allyn,

Real quick way to know, the Style 1 had a body base width of 25-1/2 inches, the Style 2 was 28-1/2. All style 1's were 1899 model year and center tiller. I think there are more 1899's today than were ever actually built :) Pretty rare car actually. And I think most "1899's" were actually sold in 1899 and built in early 1900 and delivered. Locomobile didn't start until November 15, 1899 - only leaves six weeks.

Also, 1899's had a "tread" center of tire to center of tire across of 51 inches, Style 2 1900 and up was 54 inches.

"Alcohol burner starter can"?? I have no idea what that is. The early Locomobile burner used a hot iron, heated up and then stuck in to the burner to heat the vaporizer, steam automatic was low and high burner, didn't work very well and they eventually added a standing pilot.
