Cam lobes3/3/2016 Hello all, As I'm going through this steam car engine, I came across one other item for which I could use some expert advice. One of the cam lobes seems to have some play relative to the crankshaft. I have attached a youtube link to the upload. Is this acceptable or should that be repaired? Thank you! ADVIVE ( [email protected] ) The eccentric ( cam) should not move. It should be secure in a preset position on a key-way as well as being a tight fit on the crank pin. You valve timing will be effected . As you live in America and took our advice to take your differential to Rempco we would advise you to take the engine there as well. JIM T amI rebuilt on quite a few mason engines, The cams can not move on the crank. They are pressed on and are always hard to get off. It has to come apart to find where is play is, could be a worn keyway or key, it will only get worst as time goes by. HERB
Thanks for the advice. I took the engine apart and delivered the bits to Gilbert at REMPco in Cadillac, Michigan. he rebuilt the cam, shaft, keyway as well as the main bearings and it has worked great all season
