Marshall Steam Museum Events

Marshall Steam Museum Events  4/7/2016

For a list of all Marshall Steam Museum events at Auburn Heights Preserve, please visit the
MARSHALL STEAM MUSEUM EVENTS WEBSITE

Considered an operating collection, the antique automobiles in the Marshall Steam Museum are road-registered and may be driven on public roads. Friends of Auburn Heights Preserve volunteers take them to local shows and special events, regularly participating in parades, fundraisers, community events, and the East Coast steam car tours. On today’s roads, Stanley's travel between 25 mph and 45 mph, which can be challenging in modern traffic conditions, but in their heyday, these automobiles were known for their hill-climbing ability, silent operation, and speed. Stanley's could out-climb and out-accelerate contemporary cars due to what the Stanley's termed the latter’s inferior “internal explosion engines.”

Free Exhibit House

8/1/2016

Exhibit Open House
Marshall Steam Museum at Auburn Heights Preserve

Tuesday, August 2, 7 pm
Admission: Free!

Our small museum is doing big things. Join us for a
behind-the-scenes look at the making of our newest exhibit:

Letting Off Steam: The Stanley Legacy
This program is partially funded by a grant from the Delaware Humanities Forum, a state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Joseph Boxler Education Fund

From the 1890s through the 1920s, people experimented with a new engineering marvel: the automobile. While the skeptics waited for the fad to pass and the world to return to the civilized ways of the horse and carriage, others looked to a future spent traveling on four wheels. Few companies succeeded, and many failed. This exhibit explores the history of the Stanley Motor Carriage Company, the company that built many of the cars you will find in the Marshall Steam Museum, and the connection between that company and Auburn Heights.

This special Evening at the Museum program will be free to the public.

In addition to exploring the exhibit, visitors may also enjoy:
  • Cash bar, pizza, popcorn, and other refreshments available for purchase
  • Special Making of the Exhibit slideshow
  • Chance Raffle: Choose from an Invitational Package and a Kitchen Package: $1/ ticket.Benefits the Joseph Boxler Education Fund.

*Please note that during this free open house there will be no car or train rides, electric trains, or family activities in the museum. Please join us at our next Steamin' Day on August 7 for these activities!
