What is the thought on putting insulation between the burner and the pilot assembly? what is the reason either way?

The fuel automatic has been steadily pushing fuel pressure towards 160psi after longer rides and last weekend, it would open slowly only with much vibrating and only when the pressure reached well over 160.
 
I took the thing apart and cleaned it up a little. What do I need to do to make it work again?

I did. this unit is different then the one described in the technical articles as it has a nylon stopper on the diaphragm rather than a point. In the meantime, Basil was able to help me out of a bind. This unit was likely made by Gould and probably an improvement over the old pin-type. The system was plugged up because a 1/4" ball bearing from the attached check valve got lodged in the valve body. It has likely been there for a while as the check valve was complete

Hi everyone , over the years has anyone come up with a clever and simple method of stopping the Stanley pilot light from going out . Had all sorts of ideas involving a thermal coupling and spark system but l imagine over the past 100 years some one has a remedy to this annoying problem . Any ideas would be appreciated , when tested it is just so easy to blow out even when at full flame . Ideas...............Marty

HERB DE LA PORTE  I first got my car, it was equipped with a propane setup. It allowed for the vaporizer tube to be removed and one of the holes to be used to hold a sparking unit. the sparking unit would be on all the time, which caused an annoying rhythmic ticking sound whenever the pilot was lit. On the plus side, It seemed to work well. Unfortunately, propane pilots seem to have fallen out of favor in the US and that, combined with a system that had a lot of fire damage, led me to fabricate a vaporizer tube and convert the pilot back to Hexane, with all similar results that you're experiencing. The addition of the tube took away any easy option to place thermcopiles or spark generators close to the flame. Don Bourdon has a little shield he sells that may be worth trying. In my case, I have mounted the license plate on a hinge in front of the boiler so when it's down, it somewhat covers the flow of air and that seems to help somewhat but I'm still dealing with frequent blow-outs
