EDITORIAL Geoff Lancaster I am writing this in the aftermath of the New Year celebrations from the delightful island of Madeira, quite a remote yet accessible small island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. I come here each year to escape the snow, ice and salty roads of the English winter. I say this not to inspire your envy but as an illustration of the universality of our hobby. Evidence of the passion for historic vehicles is everywhere here. Model of 30HP Stanley Steam Car Engine1/19/2017 Rolly Evans a well known steam car enthusiast and regular contributor to the site has kindly shared his latest work with us. It is a 1/8th scale replica of the Stanley 30hp 1905-6 Rocket engine. Rolly explained that the engine differs from the model K engine in that the 1905 engine had a two piece end on the main bearing part of the rod. This is possibly the only 1/8th scale miniature of the engine ever made. What an in creditable piece of model engineering and skill. 1903 Locomobile super heater12/30/2016 Per Nielsen has made a new super heater for his long wheel base 1903 Locomobile. High quality workmanship. MIKKEL POSSELT Brilliant work! KELLY WILLIAMS Has anyone done a rough calculation of reduction in heat transfer to the water due to the number of tubes covered by a large-diameter superheater pipe?) Steam watch8/9/2016 Jeff from America has taken a break from building his Stanley Model R to make a steam watch. He has sent in these photos of his fabulous steam driven watch and yes it works. We're in the process of adding more videos but you can locate it here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFIjbv6Ga9ghetaERi-h9PA to view some great videos of steam cars and steam bikes.

Helping children have fun7/21/2016 Steve and Dean the Directors of Steam Traction World took there two Stanley Steam cars to London. They helped out at the Garden School Summer Fete, held at Burton Court which is in the grounds of the Royal London Hospital and the home of the Chelsea Pensioners. Cotswold tour7/19/2016 Dudley Watts has sent in these latest photos from the tour. Dudley had a sight glass gasket fail and in a heat wave did not enjoy the repair. Bob Dyke's 1903 White steam car is in the first photo alongside Dudley's Stanley steam car , model 735A Condenser. Mark Drake's Stanley steam car model 740 Roadster condenser is in the second photo.
Well, OK, you're quite correct, the star of the photo isn't exactly steam driven - however, lurking in the distance of the picture, set in the magnificent Close at Norwich Cathedral, are three Stanley steam cars - (left to right) Model 70, Model K, Model R. The 70 was being driven by James Barron with Christine Calver, Ollie and Liam as co-drivers, navigators - whatever. The model K was driven by Russell Yeomans, ably assisted by his wife Wendy. The model R appears to have been abandoned, while it's driver Basil Craske chats to someone about a Locomobile.
Oh yes, nearly forgot - the car in the front is a 1953 MG Midget TD - owned and driven by John Oliver. We had all successfully completed the 65 miles set for this year's Charles Clark Rally which is an annual event. The steam cars and the MG all behaved and performed perfectly (of course). The Cotswold Gathering starts this Sunday. It is an event for Steam cars and Veteran cars to attend.
The gathering is run each year by Les and Pat Nelson. Let's hope for good weather for all those who attend. Pat is in the center of top picture and Les is holding a glass up in bottom picture. Volunteers at Melle event.7/7/2016 The last day7/6/2016 A busy week comes to an end. All the steam cars completed the week, as did most of the petrol (gas) driven cars. It is now time for us all to go and enjoy a last meal and to say thank you for a well organised event. Thank you to all the helpers, without them the event could not be held.
